SA Tourism expects R68 Million from the Netball World Cup

SA Tourism acting marketing officer, Bronwen Auret is confident the upcoming Netball World Cup that is set to be hosted in Cape Town next month will inject R68 million into the economy of the country.

The showpiece will start on the 28th of July until the 6th of August 2023 with around 56 000 people expected to attend the World Cup at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

“The actual event will turnover R68 million from the revenue of ticket sales and that excludes anything that gets spent on food, beverages, transport to and from the accommodation and some of the tourism activities on either side of the Netball World Cup.

From a tourism perspective, there are a lot of opportunities to engage in Cape Town as it is one of our most prominent tourism brands," Auret said.

While it is equally important to make sure that the teams participating in the tournament will have all their supporters fill the CTICC, Auret is also hoping that the supporters that are currently residing in South Africa will also come out in their numbers to support the Spar Proteas.

"We would like to wish the Proteas team all the best and we really hope they have a fantastic World Cup and that can only be possible if the country can also stand up and support the national team throughout the tournament," Auret added.

South Africa will open their account against Wales on Friday the 28th of July 2023 with Sri Lanka up next on the 29th and Jamaica on the 30th.
