Ahead of their 2023/24 DStv Premiership encounter against Chippa United on Sunday the 6th of August 2023, Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mduduzi Shabalala has revealed that there is a new mentality in the team.

Shabalala is eager to continue the path of progress he embarked on last season when he established himself in the Kaizer Chiefs senior squad, thrilling the Amakhosi Faithful with his deft skills and consistency.

While Amakhosi finished 4th in the legaue last season without any silverware, Shabalala has alluded that the team is in a different state from the previous season and everyone within the club is eager to get going in the new season.

"There’s a lot of improvement in the team but, of course, what is important is getting results, which we haven’t done as well as we would have liked, we are looking forward to putting that right against Chippa and getting three points.

We have been doing very well in training and we are looking forward to our first game because we also feeling positive," Shabalala said.

Despite the Glamour Boys having a poor run in their recent pre-season tour of Tanzania and Botswana, Shabalala is determined to ensure good performances are reflected on the scoreboard.

"The first game is very important for us to boost confidence, we play Sundowns in our second game and we want to go into that match with three points in the bag and one of the ways we can be able to do that is seeing our fans come out in their numbers to support us.

We have a new jersey, a new sponsor, Kappa, a new set-up, a new team and I believe that I have also matured because I played quite a lot of games last season, so this season it’s about getting things right and showing people that I am bringing more maturity into my game," Shabalala added.

The encounter will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium with kick-off being at 15:00 in the afternoon.
