"Unfortunately we conceded at the wrong time" - Molefi Ntseki

After their 1-1 draw in the MTN8 semifinal 1st leg against Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Molefi Ntseki has reacted to Sundowns' late equaliser lamenting that his side conceded at the wrong time.

Amakhosi conceded Khuliso Mudau's goal in the 93rd minute when they looked like they were on track to became the first team to beat Sundowns this season after Edson Castillo had broke the deadlock just after the hour mark.

"We scored at the right time but unfortunately we conceded at the wrong time, when one looks at the the six minutes added, we were supposed to close the game down as the plan was to bring in Ngcobo and Solomons, just to close it down.

“Just before the ball went out we conceded and its a very bitter pill to swallow because we already had a plan to close down the game and go home with a win," Ntseki said.

Despite Amakhosi's poor display in the first half, Ntseki insisted that his side had a better second half after they made some changes at half-time.

"I think we made the same mistake like with the league match against Sundowns, we did not have confidence on the ball but the shape was very good out of possession, the most important thing was when we regain possession where do we play and how do we play?

We had a situation where when we were defending we were thinking about defending, instead of defending and creating options when we regain possession, so that's what we corrected at half-time hence we had a better second half," Ntseki added.

The two teams will now turn their attention to the second leg of the semi-final on the 23rd of September 2023 with a spot in the MTN8 final up for grabs.
