Amakhosi winger Kgaogelo Sekgota is confident Kaizer Chiefs can still fight to attain the second spot in the DSTV Premiership and qualify for next season's CAF Champions League.

Speaking ahead of Amakhosi's DSTV Premiership match against Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on the 27th of April 2023, Sekgota concedes that Amakhosi are still mathematically in the chase for the runners up spot.

"We might have lost against Sekhukhune United but we still have a lot to play for, the team has been doing well because we managed to win a few games in a row and we can still win the remaining games to better our chances of participating in the CAF Champions League next season," Sekgota said.

Chiefs' loss to Sekhukhune United over the past weekend was the club's 9nth loss in the 2022/23 DSTV Premiership campaign and a second consecutive defeat to Babina Noko in a single season.

With Swallows FC, Orlando Pirates(Nedbank Cup semi-final tie), SuperSport United and Cape Town City up next for Amakhosi after the Chippa clash, Sekgota has reiterated that the team wants to finish strong.

"We still have the Nedbank Cup to also play and try to win because we want to break the trophy drought and end the season on a good note.

Our league matches are also important because they provide us with the opportunity to finish the season well and finish as high as we can possibly can, the team is working hard and we are ready for anything that comes our way," Sekgota added.

The 25 year old Bafana Bafana international is also wary of the threat Chippa poses ahead of the encounter on Thursday as the Chilli Boys are currently occupying the 15th spot on the log standings.

"Chippa have a good team, with good players, but we are also good and we are ready for them and looking forward to the game, I think they have a good squad and, thinking of their position in the relegation zone means it’s not going to be easy for us, but as I said, we’ll be ready for them.”

Meanwhile, amid Sekgota's lack of game time at Naturena of late, the winger has been working hard and getting motivation from the technical team to make sure he improves his game and returns back to regular action soon.

Kick-off at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Thursday is at 15:00 o'clock.
